Total anecdote, so take the following with the Internet grain of salt that it is.
I was at a dinner party in the 90s. A Columbia University law professor, by way of long, meandering conversation, asked me (paraphrasing) "Why do you think we, the general populace, are allowed to own firearms?" Uh, I'm just a rural New York bumpkin. I just want to protect my livestock and keep the deer from destroying my small plot of crops. "Sure, JayleneSlide, that's a great general reason. But in the US, it's for killing cops and politicians." 0_0
So, yeah, clearly not enough politicians in proper fear of the constituency here, despite their willingness to sell us out for the tiniest pittance.
Bad people with bad public policy ideas are the people most willing to use violence. Until everyday people feel as if there's no other choice, it will always be our craziest and our worst that go around shooting people. I mean, look at who has actually been assassinated or attacked in US political history, mostly people trying to make positive changes.
I agree they need something to fear. Violence is not the solution, but real consequences would be nice. Not an American either, but from here it’s like, the rich treat everyone else with such disrespect… They avoid taxes and get people murdered and fire communities of people and pollute like mofos and somehow, despite 360 million of you, they’re “untouchable”.
Words aren’t shit. They don’t listen, but actions are much louder.
Edit: I post this knowing we have the same problems here, and I’m just as passive. Too busy working and not being homeless to invest the energy to do anything. But I would join a general strike or some shit without question.
I don't know where are you from, but I'm pretty sure that if we had assault rifles at Walmart here, politicians would behave just in case. We had a magnicide attempt that got frustrated because the gun was so poor quality and unmaintained that it fucking jammed. We need to take more action, sure, but I still don't comprehend how Americans are on that level of passiveness, they literally don't do anything at all. The bravest ones go and vote, I'm baffled.
No I largely agree with this. If it can happen to JFK it can happen to any of these guys. And it will come to a point if they dont get their act together where theres gonna be organized assassinations of the political class I think.
The problem is the side with guns are not the ones trying to change things for the better.
Most of the gun lovers are for the dictator unfortunately
