On the other hand, stunts like that make the news.

Not that the vultures watching Reddit (and its upcoming IPO) would be reading something like Kotaku or the Verge. However, with enough press coverage, who knows? It might end up in something like Forbes, or the Economist or whatever (online) newspaper those things read.
