I know people will say anyone, but realistically, if you could hand pick our next President, who would you choose? Who do you think could win?

Heck, I'd be happy with several of the past runners.

  • Amy Klobuchar. She's progressive, but no so much as to alienate the "undecideds". She's from the Midwest, which gives her some street cred with people Democratic front-runners have trouble with: the center of the country. She presents well and is smart.
  • Pete Buttigieg. He polled well, has a good stance on most policies.
  • Andrew Yang. My personal favorite, progressive, but not so far out - again, Trumpers are going to Trump, but you have to capture moderates to win.

Bernie is too old (why do we keep running old white men?), and I believe his biggest problem is that moderate vote. He's polarizing. I'd like him as president, but he dresses like Colombo, and I just can't see him winning.

All of the above are still relatively young, experienced, progressive, and not too polarizing. Amy's a woman, and Pete's gay; these are handicaps because some moderates are still bigots. I don't know anymore whether they're the handicaps they were a decade ago, but still. They're handles for Trump to grab onto and beat the media with, who will mindlessly parrot and amplify his message.

I like Yang's politics the most, but - like Bernie - he alienates corporate America and thanks to Citizens Fucking United, corporations are people and money buys votes.

I think of my picks, Klobuchar would have the best chance against Trump. She can be brutal, and takes no shit, and I think she might even cause some Trumpers to waver. She doesn't have AOC-level beat-downs, but she's not bad. Despite the handicap of the bigots - which, with the Wicked Witches of Congress, might be more muted now - I think she's a contender.

So: Klobuchar. I think she could pick up moderates and pull Midwestern votes, is a moderate liberal, and most importantly, beat Trump.

You're right about the "Midwestern values" that would help draw in moderates. Didn't Pete get a nice little bump after the Baltimore bridge thing?
