Klay is an ok defender, but you're comparing him to his elite 2-way self from 2016-2018. Of course he doesn't look as good, but he's fine. Just older.

Defense is mainly effort anyway. Since the Mavericks will have a third shooter on offense, that will preserve their effort for defense.

Now teams will have trouble covering three good shooters. I've seen it on the Warriors and it's tough to defend. It will make opponents work harder to defend them, leaving the other team with less energy for their offense.
