Spent a while this morning learning how to send myself emails within the google ecosystem with hotel reservation details so it auto-adds into my calendar properly, for when hotels don't send email confirmations with the correct markups or in my case, when I wasn't the one who did the booking. Was a fair bit more involved than I initially thought but eventually nailed it. If anybody needs or wants to know how it's done let me know and I'll write it up. Can do it for a bunch of different booking types: flights, events, car hire, restaurants, etc.
It's all hidden data that gmail can grab:
image is an example of a hotel booking
image of how it ends up in google calendar
That's incredible, a lot different than the old "ring up a hotel, get a verbal confirmation, they send a paper booking in the mail, you put it in a deadtree diary/schedule. "
It must have been different again when there was only postal service. Before that messengers or just turn up at the inn!!
