How is that easier? Once he nominated, it will be his name appearing on ballots. Are you proposing he instruct his pledged EC electors to vote Harris/$NAME instead of Biden/Harris? That might run afoul of Faithless Elector laws in some states.
You're absolutely correct on the faithless electors laws. Even if they would be ruled unconstitutional in court, there's simply not enough time to deal with that shit before the election. And I don't see that kind of clown show improving our chances.
None of this is even possible unless an alternative is identified that wants to run (hasn't happened) and Biden chooses to step aside (hasn't happened).
I don't know where some of these people are getting these fairy tales about Biden showing up to the convention and saying "okay guys, I'm out. You've got 4 days or whatever to figure it out."
That's how the rules work.
