Is fishing still a thing in MMOs? Genuinely asking. I haven’t played an MMO since 2017 and fishing is basically nonexistent in offline games.

Fishing is completely taking over offline games, what are you talking about?

Skyrim literally added an entire fishing mechanic when they released the Anniversary Edition a couple years back.

Dave the Diver? That game is nothing but fishing.

ETA: FF15, and pretty much any cozy game you can think of.

It's in quite a few games but I guess I haven't played anything more modern than 2017. Runescape and Monster Hunter still have it. Warframe too, surprisingly enough.
