I'm sure Republicans are all going on about how he's "just joking". Sure, that obviously was a joke but it's not like conservatives don't want exactly this – they always hide behind "it was just a joke maaaannn" when the heinous shit they say causes a negative reaction

"it's just a joke man....... unless you're cool with it. In which case yeah we're totally serious"

Kinda like joking about having a threesome with your significant other.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 3 months ago

Yup, "haha only joking. Unless…?"

"I'm just Kiddin' like Jason... unless you gon' do it."

It wasn't a joke, which we know because they doubled down after failing the 2020 electiom coup.

Yes, they hide behind joking when they say heinous shit like mocking the military or the disabled. They also hide behind it when when they are open about wanting a dictatorship.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago

Yes this is exactly what I meant. It was said in a manner that they can just claim it was a joke, even when it's clearly not

It doesn't help that Trump's speeches are full of semi-coherent rambling and tangential sentence fragments, and that his entire style has always been to speak entirely in ridiculous hyperbole. It makes it easier for people to interpret statements in whatever way best fits their point of view, because you just get used to filling in the context and reducing his absurd claims down to a vague generality.

I'm sure Trump defenders will argue that he was saying "you won't have to vote" only meant that the next election won't have such high stakes because Trump will fix America's problems and yada yada yada.

I despise the guy but I'm not sure how to say this without sounding like I support him...I honestly think this IS what I think he meant. The dude can't put together coherent sentences. Words just kind of fall out of his mouth.

With that said, eliminating elections is definitely what his puppet masters want so it's kind of a moot point. This is their long game and Trump is just a piece of the puzzle.

He wanted to be a "day-one dictator." I think you may be a bit too charitable here.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Maybe. He is not a smart man.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I think this is dangerous. He may not be articulate, he may not be good at math, but the man is smart when it comes to working a crowd. He has done enough to become president once and I don't think a stupid man would fumble his way there.

He's smart, even if I hate to admit it. To pretend he isn't means we aren't taking him as seriously as we should.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Being shrewd and charismatic (to some people....YUCK) doesn't mean he's smart. He gets his orders from someone higher up who IS smart and knows how to stroke his ego to get him to act.

It's not dangerous to think or say that because the hidden threat is significantly greater and I'm pointing that over the fumbling idiot. He's the tip of the spear.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

I honestly think this IS what I think he meant.

Never get inside a conservative's mind if you come out with a loser defeatism attitude. He might try to claim that as his fall back cover story when a journalist presses him on it, but it's not what he meant at all. The most generous interpretation is "I don't care who wins after me because I just want to win to stay out of jail". The most likely interpretation is "Pay attention to me. Pay attention to me. Pay attention to me. " If he wins he will be saying shit like that every single day for 4 years like an abusive spouse just for the attention. But he absolutely will try to end democratic elections if he think he can get away with it.

“He’s just joking”

Uhhh, Maybe we shouldn’t have a joker as president?? Maybe vagueness is bad???

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Unfunny Donald

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Their interpretation is that he was trying to motivate a bunch of old Christians to come out and vote for him so he can fix all the problems with America, and then they can go back to not voting because it'll all be fixed.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Christians voting for Trump...sigh.

Look, I'm atheist. But...if you're claiming to be Christian and voting for Trump, what exactly are you worshiping?

Thanks for sharing this interpretation. Assuming for a moment that was his actual intent in saying that (I watched the clip several times and I simply could not decipher his actual intent), I would suggest that it should still be essentially campaign-ending to say something so closely resembling a call for the end of elections once you are elected. People should be so repulsed by the idea that it makes all candidates feel obliged to speak carefully and clearly enough to avoid even the insinuation of saying such things.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

People are always trying to make excuses for Sex Offender Trump and they are always wrong. He actual intent is (1) to appeal to the neofascist movement and (2) to force you to pay attention to him like an abusive spouse. If elected Sex Offender Trump will say shit like that every single day to make you pay attention to him and it will continually escalate throughout his 4 years to try to condition people to let him stay in power.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Ah right, that does sort of make sense

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

Tom Cotton already said "he's joking"

You can set your watch to this shit

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Refute anyone that says that "he's joking." He's not.
