Second bit of collapse worthy news today:

lychee shortage.

No lycheee for the thai duck curry tonight :(

I don't think I've ever bought lychees, at least not in Australia. They just aren't on my radar at all. Do you normally put them in the curry itself, or serve them as an accompaniment?

I just throw them in at the end with the pineapple.

A few years I had a duck curry at a place in Queenscliff that threw them in and though it was a nice little addition.

Fresh ones at Piedmontes in season. Also the markets. Much nicer than tinned.

But global warming means you'll be able to grow your own lychee before shit really hits the fan?

I'm expecting cactus fruit to be more achievable.

Prickly pear is tasty but not worth the effort of picking tiny hairs out of each other for hours if you mess up peeling it

Dining on lychees as the fireball unfolds...an ending worthy of the finest film

I actually had a Thai red duck curry last night at a restaurant and there was a notable lack of lychee. Now I understand why.

Wow! Who would have thought that tin in the back of my cupboard would be in demand.
