Frontline did a decent piece on them.
The piece manages to shed some light on recent events regarding extremism and the AfD here in Germany. Sadly it's geoblocked here.
Other interesting revelations include connections between the AfD and Russia. The AfD pursues a policy of friendliness towards Russia and a stop to aid torwards Ukraine. In exchange Russia is trying to strengthen the party by spreading misinformation and probably financial aid.
