Hunt: Showdown 1896 represents the next era of Hunt, with an upgraded engine and new map coming in August.

That's fair, maybe after the engine update. The new UI does seem more suited towards a crossplay system in general (and prioritizing controller players a bit more).

Hunt seems to be one of the few games these days that really started as a PC game instead of a console game (normally AAA devs prioritize the console audience).
