Is it really any different from figure skating?
Personally I just don't really like events being subjectively judged, which is what I have against it. But I couldn't say why one is ok but not another.
Yeah I agree actually. Sports like figure skating and gymnastics have such a strong heritage you could never get rid of them, but I don't like sports that are judged that way. The 10-point-must system from boxing is right on the line, but sports like diving and gymnastics are way too subjective.
The weirdest one I think is the ski jumping. You'd think it would be entirely objective based, like long jump. But bizarrely, no. That forms part of it, but they also get style points. Why, I have never understood.
