So... Religion is always such a complicated thing, and I think to a great degree Zelenskiy deserves commendation for allowing people to continue practicing for so long. For many people you can't separate your religion from your identity, no matter what's going on around you. But the fact is the Russian Orthodox church is so tightly coupled to the Kremlin that... Yeah, it's not safe for Ukraine to allow it to continue operating there. I'm sure this is the best move, but this is also gonna result in protests and potentially uprisings in parts of the country. I think possibly the move, and this is a political move for the while world, not just Ukraine, is to not allow for any coupling between the church and the state, no matter which state that is. A religion attach to a government, when you really think about the implications thereof, is really scary. It means the government is using the church as a propaganda arm, or that the religion has control over the government. Either is... Terrible. Spiritual expression should never be about control
