On the list of Familiar Abilities one is "dragon". I have a player thinking about picking up the Witch multiclass archetype for a familiar, and asking if theirs can be a dragon.

Is this allowed? Or is there some other context that I might be missing?

Thankfully—if I'm reading the rules correctly—the stats of a familiar are pretty locked in and not dependent on the species of their pet—apart from the specific abilities they choose. So there's probably no concern about a dragon being OP compared to something more traditional like a bat or cat. Unless I'm mistaking something.

Pf2 is pretty balanced, if its in the rules, you should be fine

Yeah I was just wondering if there was a bit I was missing. Cos it kinda mentions something about "if the GM lets you have something else", so I was wondering what guidance there might be for GMs about this.

edit: ok I found the bit that I mentioned there, and it says:

When you gain your pet, choose two of the following abilities. If your pet is an animal that naturally has one of these abilities (for instance, an owl has a fly Speed), you must select that ability. Your pet can’t be an animal that naturally has more pet abilities than the maximum. In some cases, the GM might add some familiar abilities described on pages 212–213 to the pet abilities you can choose.

But that's actually on the Pets page, so I think it's probably talking about if they get a pet that isn't a familiar?
