I'm not sure I agree with the concept of this article. Its true that the PS5 will likely have much better performance on Sony titles than a PC that you can get for around the same price. Sony has always treated its consoles as a loss leader and makes up the difference in game sales. This presents a significant advantage to sony in the hardware cost to performance ratio.

However, with PC we're not comparing apples to apples. In terms of game selection, the PS5 has a little over 750 titles. Looking at Steam alone, the PC has access to over 101,000 games, which is more than 5 times the amount of games released for every sony console combined; to say nothing of the games not available on steam, or the non-gaming tasks you can do.

I guess, if your goal is to play Sony titles in 4k at 60 FPS as cheaply as possible, then the PS5 is probably the way to go. But in terms of overall value, the PC is hard to beat.

Some people don't have the knowledge or confidence to build a PC or go through the process of installing everything to run games like a pro PC gamer, and for them, the do-it-for-me approach of console gaming is the best route. With the upcoming generation of iPad kids, I feel like console gaming is going to be bigger than ever.

Disclaimer: I'm a PC gamer almost exclusively.

Thats a valid take. The prebuilt market for gaming PCs is getting better but they're still kind of a bespoke product.

Getting games to run smoothly on PC hasn't really been an issue for a while though. You can tweak things in the settings to eek out some extra performance, but most games are playable right from install with default settings.
