I think I dislike the Broccoli episodes more than any Wesley ones. Of course, it was silly to see Wes miraculously save the day by being more competent or space-time-magical than everyone else. But at least, despite his obvious disadvantage (of being a child), he was good at his job as an Ensign.
Broccoli was just so comic awkward that I could never believe he'd get posted to a starship, let alone end up being tolerated for all his nonsense.
I appreciate the message of inclusivity for introverted people; they gave him a chance and it paid off. It's just I always felt like he was there to be laughed at, primarily.
Barclay is one of the most underrated heroes in all of trek! The guy is terrified all the time, constantly worried about getting sent on an away mission where he needs to be demolecularized or could be sucked out into space or eaten by an oil monster or who knows what. But he faithfully does his job as best as he can under the circumstances. And like another poster below said, he was instrumental in getting Voyager home. He's pretty cringey for sure, and his holodeck "fantasies" are an HR nightmare, but he deserves some respect.
