Yeah, there's obviously a market for it, but a good mainline 2D title hasn't been released in a quarter of a century. Sad.
The "Metroid" part of the metroidvania genre got two new releases recently, I have hope that the "vania" part will too. -huffs copium-
It did? Dread was 2021 and there hasn't been another release since from what I know.
Maybe they are counting Metroid Prime Remastered as a new release.
If re-releases count, they're in luck. Feels like you can sneeze and find a new Castlevania re-release, the last one being the Dominus Collection
I counted the announcement for Prime 4 slated for release next year as part of "recently". I haven't eaten this good as a Metroid fan in years, let me live 😭
It was nice to see the "Dominus Collection" get released on PC at least, but I'm not sure Konami is capable of making a new and actually good -vania game without Iga.
Konami needs to get the Dead Cells team (Evil Empire, not Motion Twin) to do a Castlevania game, that DLC (especially the remixed music) was so gas
I'm also sick of Konami just porting the games over and over again. I love Castlevania, but I have bought the games so many times in so many different collections that it feels like it's own pachinko hell. And we all know how Konami feels about pachinko.
The Dead Cells team definitely has the chop to make a great game, even if I feel it won't be exactly like an Iga game. That being said, they are likely better off not letting Konami swallow them based on how they have treated their previous star developers. (I'm still pissed about how they treated Kojima).
Also thanks for reminding me about their pachinko obsession. I don't know why it feel so bizarrely amusing to me, but it does. I just hope they can finally get SOTN ported to PC before they go full pachinko.
