Well I’ve had just a bad start to the weekend start to the weekend.

My hot water system has now has a massive leak and I was forced to turn it off so as of now I have no hot water or access to it.

What a disaster :(

Oh no. I hope you can get it fixed asap.

I hope so too. I don’t know if it’ll be easy or not. If it can’t I’m going to have to think of some creative ideas.

If you're in desperate need for a shower your local aquatic centre.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Might have to though I might prefer to do a cold shower at home vs doing that.

Anyway I know I’ll have to do it tomorrow and the day after.

As shit as that is at least know that you're not the first person who's had to do that.

Thanks. Just a bit complicated because I have skin issues and stuff.

Yeah. It’s a good suggestion though and one I need to look into unless I boil some water and rinse myself in the bath with a mini bath

When our family visited my parents home country in the 90s and 2000s nobody had hot water systems. My mum still insisted on us washing in warm water if we showered at night, though. So we just boiled hot water in a kettle on the stove, poured it in with some tap water in a large plastic bucket, and used a plastic scoop to wash ourselves. We also didn't grow up with hot showers for the most part so it wasn't outrageous. However... Massive caveat this was obviously a lot easier in the tropics. But thinking back it's made me realise how much we take hot water for granted.

Anyway, the bucket method is there as a last resort...

Thinking it’s what I might have to do

Thinking about it some more yours might be the best idea for awhile for me if things don’t get resolved.

Going to have to wait to try it out but I think it’ll get me by. Just need to wait for my payday to get a backer and ladle for this.

Could keep it to pits and bits with a washcloth if you have a plastic basin or bowl or something hanging around

If it's the tank that's leaking, best to replace it. Not sure its worth fixing.

As an owner it should cost around $2k for a new one. At least that's what I paid 3 years ago.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I’m not sure where or what it’s leaking from. There was a substantial amount of water flowing.

If that’s the cost of a new one I guess I’m out of luck for a good while.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Could just be a valve too. Those are much cheaper. Had one go years ago. A stream was pissing out the side from the relief pipe. Cost about $200 to fix.

I can only hope that it’s lucky. Been experiencing like a water hammer noise for awhile and maybe the pipe at the back leading into the water unit finally burst.

Or unlucky if the whole unit needs to be replaced

Do you have access to a 24 hr gym? You could shower there in the short term.

I haven’t really looked into it to be honest. I don’t have a subscription to one though.
