I'm always amazed that people play console and PC games on mobile. How do you move around and manage all of the inputs?

Touch screen. Some mimics console game controler. It's a widely accepted thing now.

Not saying that I like it myself, but lot of people do.

Yeah I didn't understand how anyone can play with so much of the screen taken up by buttons.

It’s because of display size.

Back in the ancient times people used to divide mobile devices into phones, phablets and tablets. Nowadays, most phones are about the size of a phablet, so you totally have the screen real estate for buttons.
