I was talking about the lack of a Discovery engineer on another post. Why not make you 15 cents richer and bring in a blind engineer there too?

Paul Stamets was the engineer on Discovery... That dude was pivotal to the story in a lot of ways. Not sure how you missed him 😲

It’s not like anyone knows half the names of the crew of Discovery. Most of the time it was The Michael Burnham Show ™.

Nope. He isn't. LtCmdr Paul Stamets isn't an Engineer and he never has been. He's a Science Officer. He works in Engineering Test Bay Alpha but he isn't an Engineer himself. Jett Reno is the highest ranking Engineering Officer we ever see on Discovery.

In Season 2, Reno goes into Stamets lab and says "The Chief sent me here" so we know there's a Chief Engineer and it isn't Stamets.

That link doesn't have any information about Stamets after Season 1. I think they're using 'chief engineer' to mean the 'main engineer we see' but that's not even accurate. Then again, Memory Alpha calls the Chief Medical Officer the 'head nurse' so fuck knows what's going on.

He was just a mycology engineer, not the chief engineer. I honestly can't remember if we ever see main engineering on Discovery. They mostly work in the Spore Drive engine room. But that was Discovery's schtick, that it wasn't the "main" crew that were the stars originally.

But that link literally says he's the chief engineer. I've never actually watched discovery though.

He eventually became chief engineer when Burnham was made captain. He started out just as a regular crew member. None of the main cast were in special positions at the beginning. That was one of the main complaints, because we never learn much about the bridge officers.

He never became Chief Engineer because Stamets was never an Engineering Officer. He's in Science Division. The link is just flat out wrong. I suspect they might be using 'chief' engineer to mean that he's the engineer we see the most of in Season 1. Also that link hasn't been updated since Season 1.

And what season is that from? I'm guessing Season 1 because Paul is not the Chief Engineer. It has been openly said that he's not the chief engineer. So clearly plans changed somewhere between season 1 and 2. It doesn't even make any sense for him to be chief engineer in the first place. He is an astromycologist.

Edit: It was a production mistake. He isn't Chief Engineer.

A graphic seen in "Choose Your Pain" referred to Stamets as the chief engineer, but Ted Sullivan discarded this as a production mistake, quipping, "I'd say he's the chief engineer of spore drive but not of engineering."

Ted is a producer of the show.

Yeah man, you just can't argue with some people.

I'm seeing people saying both I, and the official Star Trek bio that I linked are wrong. How about an image of his personnel file?

Some people just like to argue for no reason at all.
