The problem is that almost all American media prides itself on being "unbiased," and is completely terrified of appearing otherwise. They spend millions to avoid appearing biased toward the left, specifically.
So, when they have spent lots of time talking about Trumps recent indictment, they feel the most "unbiased" thing to do is also to give a similar amount of coverage to this story, because that way they avoid accusations of being "biased."
Every top comment talks about trump because that is the actually relevant story. An ex-president being indicted for potentially jeopardizing national security is a SIGNIFICANTLY more important story that the presidents son dodging taxes and maybe illegally owning a gun. The two are in different universes of importance. It's frustrating to see the media in general get so easily distracted by a story like this with questionable importance when there are significantly more important things happening right now.
