Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

Does the Data Privacy Act of 2012 have the same powers as the GDPR or CCPA in that it will compel companies and corporations to delete data from users in Philippine territory?

EDIT: We have the rights to, as per prescribed in the IRR of the Data Privacy Act:

e. Right to Erasure or Blocking. The data subject shall have the right to suspend, withdraw or order the blocking, removal or destruction of his or her personal data from the personal information controller’s filing system.

  1. This right may be exercised upon discovery and substantial proof of any of the following:

(a) The personal data is incomplete, outdated, false, or unlawfully obtained;

(b) The personal data is being used for purpose not authorized by the data subject;

(c) The personal data is no longer necessary for the purposes for which they were collected;

(d) The data subject withdraws consent or objects to the processing, and there is no other legal ground or overriding legitimate interest for the processing;

(e) The personal data concerns private information that is prejudicial to data subject, unless justified by freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press or otherwise authorized;

(f) The processing is unlawful;

(g) The personal information controller or personal information processor violated the rights of the data subject.

PH companies can delete data from their database. The irony here is that you need to submit rigorous documents to them, and it will take them 30 days tops to delete your data.

I requested GCash to delete my former account linked to my old, forgotten mobile number last year, and yes they deleted "some of it". I say some of it, kasi under sila sa AMLC na dapat may data retention ang mga deleted account minimum of five years, ten is max. ePhilID (or any valid ID) former mobile number, at letter need nila. I dunno kung ganito pa rin ngayon.

Tried requesting data deletion sa Shopee, but they need interview or video chat. Wtf? This was a year ago.
