What show is this? Is it typically this based or just a one off?

"Lower Decks". It's the best Star Trek TV series since May of 1999. The writers have miraculously figured out a balance of self-aware comedy that nevertheless stays completely faithful to the spirit of classic Trek, and gets serious when seriousness is called for. They got a lot of previous series' actors to come back for voice work.

And they know how to use music.
