Oh my... I remember IRC or was it IRQ? I can't remember either way I'm old because I found out about it talking to someone on MSN.
Edit: It was ICQ and I'm a square for getting them confused.
IRC was basically pre-everything. Before ICQ and MSN and WhatsApp and surely before telegram.
Probably only Usenet was older, if we're talking about social networking software.
Usenet was a hierarchical structure for what became the forums. You had a main tree and then separated branches for every argument, for example alt.sports then alt.sports.martialarts then alt.sports.martialarts.karate
Usenet was text only, very fast with old modems compared to web pages.
All the files (and piracy stuff) were relegated to alt.binaries
... another thing I missed lol. Well no more, I am at the beginnings this time. (Insert victorious laughter.)
