Setting aside most "communism" people think of never was, imagining that a supposed alternative is worse doesn't make your current option good. Maybe thinking about alternatives isn't such a bad thing.

The point is that the meme acts as if the other option would not have done that. So pointing out that the alternative is just as bad is perfectly valid.

Like instead of taking heroin we switch to crack, that is not going to help with the drug related issue.
