I always wondered what radios they are running with antennas that long. Is it HF for better long range communication as UHF (What a normal CB uses) a full wave antenna is only around 70cm.

I don’t think anyone is running around with HF?. It seems the longer antenna as pictured would be a UHF for longer distance over flat terrain.

Ah, so higher gain and better for long flat distances. Makes sense.
