UK Politics
General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.
Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.
Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.
If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)
Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.
Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

Found the Daily Hail reader..
I got you... it's called "receiving financial support for having kids under late stage capitalism".
"Raking in the benefits" is what you'd call the billions in subsidies stolen from taxpayers and gifted to oligarchs and profitable corporations under conservative/neoliberal governments.
How many kids people have is no ones business but their own, and absolutely no one is (and never has been) "raking it in" on benefits.
Perhaps you should pop to your local baby bank (like a food bank but for baby supplies, because those need to exist now) and speak to the staff to see for yourself what the reality is instead of spreading such harmful, and outright wrong, bullshit (even if you don't mean it to be or even understand why it is, that's what you're doing).
At the time, people were very open about having large families and being funded for it by the state.
However I don't disagree with the rest of your comment and it's not the point I was making.
What time? Which people? How many of these people are out there? How many kids were they having? Where they actually getting funded by the state, and if so, to what standard of living?
This idea that a family you saw on "reality" tv (aka poverty porn) or an urban legend you heard about a-friend-of-your-cousins-sister-in-law-who-knows-this-lady-down-her-street is actually proof of anything is laughable, and the fact that people consume this propaganda so uncritically to the point where it informs their reality is depressing.
Why did the government change policy then?
Because they're hateful bigoted conservative arseholes looking to make the lives of poor people miserable.
As are those who pretend to not know/notice this.
Now I'm done playing along with your sealioning, if you genuinely give a shit, feel free to invest your own time to learn these basics.
