My kids allowed a facebook account when he turns 18. until then? Hard no. this includes any and all Meta products.
Do kids even use Facebook these days?
An outright ban is probably not going to be the best option for dealing with social media. Especially if all their friends are using a site they will either find a way to use it without you knowing, or resent you for damaging their friendships and social standing and be unwilling to listen to any advice you have to give in that area.
A better option is to assess what they are using on a case by case basis, make sure they learn about why these products can be a problem and how to keep themselves safe, and make sure that they feel free to talk to you about what they are doing.
Agree, mostly... In my case I'm talking about a 7 and 10 year old, so they're just wanting to message their friends. They don't have phones, so it's only going to be on a tablet at home on wifi. It's just frustrating that it's through meta. I want some sort of free to use, safe, modern, messaging service that's cross platform and not a gateway to Facebook...or a meta company I guess.
