Buyin him is one thing actually paying the lad is beyond us unfortunatey
Break the bank for one season and then offload him to Madrid?
We'd break the club trying to pay him £600k a week
Destroy and rebuild! 🫣
@sabret00the @Mijn_Bergkamp
Why? It would ruin Arsenal and everything that Arteta and Edu are trying to build.
Anyone who wants Mbappe at Arsenal now just doesn't want long term sustained success for the Club.
I guess I don't want long term sustained success for the club.
Obviously the terms on which he comes here matter (purchase price, wages, etc.) but you cannot tell me that Mbappe would immediately elevate this club. Edu/Arteta have a vision for this club, yes? There are now multiple reports saying that our interest in Havertz is real. Are you telling me that Edu/Arteta would say no to Mbappe but yes to Havertz?
There is no perfect player. Perhaps the one flaw Mbappe has is that he doesn't track back well. But how do you know that his instructions aren't to hang out at the half-way line and spring the quick counter?
Also, this idea of "long-term sustained success" is a myth. Sports are nothing if not cyclical. There are windows in which to win championships, and you need to seize on them. And last I've checked, the last 15 or so years of this club we haven't won the league once, nor have we made it to the quarters of the Champions League. During those 15 years, we have never had a player of the level of Mbappe - a player who is unquestionably world class and arguably best in the world. And now you would turn him down? The last time we won the league, we had arguably the best player in the world.
@kuijun You're missing the point. He would totally disrupt the changing room, wage structure, team togetherness.
I don't want any primadona anywhere near this squad.
what evidence do you have of this?
say what you want about our season last year, but it was clear we lacked a winner's mentality. we crashed out of every domestic cup, laid an egg at home in the Europa League, and couldn't keep it together when City upped their game second half of the season.
@kuijun
It's called using your own eyes. If you don't think he will disrupt everything good about Arsenal last year then that's your opinion, but's it mine that I don't want that prick anywhere near Arsenal.
awesome, you've convinced me
I would argue that our stubbornness regarding self sustainability was actually what caused our downfall.
Paying him 600 for one season would be the equivalent of not signing two additional players, but gaining arguably one of the best two strikers in the world.
It's also worth noting that winning the league and champions league would put us in a position whereby we would actually struggle to exceed our income.
I don't think it will happen, but I'd definitely take him for year.
It's not just about financial sustainability. It's the impact it has on structure and team togetherness. He has a known ego, and would likely need to be paid double or triple any of our other players to be convinced to come. If he doesn't then perform to that level you think players like Saka will just sit around? We could afford to pay one player that much but we can't afford to pay everyone that much.
