FWIW I interpreted the couple as being pre-marriage, in the "let's try buying things together" phase.* The joke is that he would rather hang with a bro instead.

clues: they're young-ish; she's not wearing a ring; if they were married he'd have given it as a gift or just told her to buy it herself.

You're partially right. It was love at first sight. He wants to go home with the dude, but he's already in a commited closed relationship with the girl. At least that's my head cannon.
