The more people use trains/buses/trams/bikes etc. the less traffic is on the road. I don't see why would you discourage using them when it will benefit you.

Yup. Please tell that to the CDU in Berlin, which has cut all future bicycle path projects and cut funding for path maintenance by 60 percent. I'm guessing funding for/privatisation of public transport comes next.
