My question is where, there is a community center of sorts but it's a bit off the beaten path. There wasn't a park or similar community space the last time I was there (admittedly that was 20 years ago). They could put it at the airport or in front of the hotel or maybe down by the docks but that's about it.

If it's anything like the Janeway statue near to me in Bloomington, Indiana (still haven't made my pilgrimage despite going to Bloomington to visit my mother all the time), it will be on an urban trail.

Janeway's statue belongs in the local Starbucks.

I'm still waiting for them to install our RoboCop statue. I offered up my front yard but was declined

According to The Register, it's in Ruth Pond Park? I looked it up in Google Maps, and it looks like it's nicely developed enough that a statue somewhere out there wouldn't look too weird.

Cool, they built a new community center. That looks nice.

Here's the weird part. Riker only ever says that he's from Alaska in the show. He doesn't specify Valdez. So where does Valdez come from?

Both the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 1, p. 223) and StarTrek.com identified Valdez, Alaska as Riker's place of birth. [1]

I mean sure, why not Valdez? Riverside, Iowa decided Kirk was born there because he said he was from Iowa and no one ever claimed it before them, so I guess they got there first. They have a statue and a marker.

Someday, I'll have to visit the Janeway statue in Bloomington, IN (Voyager did establish her as being from Bloomington because Jeri Taylor went to IU), the Kirk statue in Iowa, the soon-to-be Riker statue in Valdez and maybe finish at Vulcan, Alberta. A Star Trek road trip!
