I've been wanting to write a surreal novel based/inspired by a Vaporwave album I love for a long time. I'm not sure if i should publish it, but im just sharing the things that i have on my mind.

Nothing stopping you comrade, I wish you the best of luck. I write short stories all the time but really want to compile a proper novel together. Unfortunately I have such a hard time keeping track of everything in the story it always comes out a bit messy.

And don't write with the intent to publish, either. That pressure just gets in the way. Consider publishing after you're finished. That way you get something out no matter what!

The only thing that is stopping me is art block

I've been writing all my life and I totally feel this. This doesn't necessarily work for everyone but when I have art/writer's block I use the Oblique Strategies by Brian Eno app. It is free on the App/Play Store and usually helps me overcome my writer's block. It might be worth checking out.

I'm most inspired when I'm away from my writing station. In particular, when I'm disconnected from everything, particularly in nature. The ideas start to flow, and I can just write them down in a notebook for later

What stops you?

Is it the act of sitting them down and actually fleshing it out? Do you have anxiety about the quality of the ideas?

Have you tried just making bullet point notes on your phone when an idea comes to mind? It's very low stakes and hardly takes any time. I have a notes app full of ideas. Some of them grew into something bigger, others I just delete if they don't stick.

When I write down a few bullets, I find myself adding more and more throughout the week

Mostly sitting down and focusing on it. Keeping my focus on something for any amount of time is really hard for me :(

Unfortunately I have such a hard time keeping track of everything in the story it always comes out a bit messy.

This is starting to be a problem to me too, so I make sure to always write my ideas and any incossistencies I can think of and write it in the order that it appears in the story separated by chapters. For example, as I reread a chapter I realized there was a problem 2 or 3 chapters before so I went to another txt file I keep always open and wrote it down on that chapter so when I look through it again I can fix it.

It's still hard but it has helped a lot.
