Because of our shitty election system.
If you look at the popular vote, Biden won decisively. But because of how the electoral college works, it's all about winning states as opposed to winning a grand total of votes, and small states tend to swing right.
Even though Biden won the popular vote by several million votes, the election was actually decided by roughly 200,000 votes spread though a handful of swing states.
It's a broken system.
