Deserved, it really is a good film that takes something aimed at a niche audience and gives it widespread appeal. The marketing campaign I would say was insane though, it was so heavily pushed it was inescapable and its been a while since I've seen a movie do that.

Seriously. The Oppenheimer/barbie connections and word of mouth was all over. It was even a conversation piece during work meetings.
Amazingly, the only time I ever even heard of the barbie movie was in April when my physical therapist had asked if I'd seen all the previews for the new barbie movie, and she went on about it for a while
But I haven't seen a single ad or preview for either except a radio ad for Oppenheimer before my car connected to my Bluetooth
