Nah... Dumbledore was metal... Quirrel would've stayed there staring into the mirror ignoring all his basic biological needs until he died of dehydration. Harry, Hermoine and Ron were completely unnecessary to stopping Voldemort in the first book.

not only were they unnecessary. Harry actively endangered the whole catch-a-voldy plan. He accidentally got the stone, and if it wasn't for his hands-on-fire skill the series would've ended after book one.
Thankfully for the plot Voldy was like a James Bond villain.... with magic
