All hail the Beaverton.
Funny, it seems the quality of journalism on Facebook has dramatically increased in the last 24 hours. The Beaverton’s reporters are truly dedicated to serving the public interest.
They're clowns, so they can't be taken seriously enough to invest in as propaganda. At any moment, everything they say can be dismissed as a joke. At best, it might be taken as a reflection of general sentiments, but it's all deniable satire.
So they're totally free to talk about anything they want. Their money doesn't come from that in the same way as news outlets. And that means they can choose to focus on topics (regardless on what take they have) that news outlets aren't allowed to touch for fear of losing cash. That means we end up hearing about stuff at all that we wouldn't otherwise.
A diversity of topics is pretty important when it comes to breaking up an echo chamber!
In Beaver We Trust.
Nothing has changed. While we sometimes disagree with The Beav, I think most of us can agree it's accidentally the most reliable source out on our feeds before and after the purgening. It's Daily-Showed itself. Hard.
During the dumpster fire of President Florida man, Stephen Colbert made understanding news stories funny and informative. I have no problem with the Beaverton doing the same.
I honestly don't know what they expected here, this would be an absolute nightmare to implement, and it's Facebook so people are just going to get their news from political memes anyways.
Facebook already pays for Australian news content, they banned it from the platform at first then came back and said "Ok, sorry, we're ready to negotiate now 🥺"
Maybe they'll do the same for Canada, or maybe we aren't profitable lol
We're 15m more than them, if they're profitable enough then don't worry, we're profitable enough.
