I feel you on that. She's a sharp and critical thinker in two domains. Something few can do.
Of all the places where a video like this would be taken seriously, or at least met with substantial criticism.... I'd think it'd be this one. Kneejerk downvotes for a video with this title would make perfect sense from reactionaries, but I thought we'd be far away from those here.
Could the topic of how astronomy as a profession enables colonial sentiment be launched into faster? Sure. But does that make it wrong when a telescope gets treated as more important than indigenous populations gets launched into? Hell no. Incendiary title does not a bad argument make.
Within the first minute of the video, I was reminded of how I was introduced to the Pale Blue Dot not from the perspective of a scientist, but by a piece of creationist, Christian propaganda.
I watched some of this, it’s good. I wish creators would split longer essays into parts for easier consumption.
Took me a couple of days to watch. Her emphasis on praxis is important to me.
I’ll give it another watch. If you have any leftists content creators that need attention, send ‘em my way. My YouTube algorithm keeps trying to push me to weird content. It’s a constant battle.
