Ergonomic, split and other weird keyboards

Rules

Keep it ergo

Posts must be of/about keyboards that have a clear delineation between the left and right halves of the keyboard, column stagger, or both. This includes one-handed (one half doesn't exist, what clearer delineation is that!?)

i.e. no regular non-split¹ row-stagger and no non-split¹ ortholinear²

¹ split meaning a separation of the halves, whether fixed in place or entirely separate, both are fine.
² ortholinear meaning keys layed out in a grid

I guess I have to try this site now, so what are people using for Android? Any good apps?

Jerboa for now, but as soon as Lemmy Sync comes along I'm jumping to that

Has there been more information about that? I think I saw a rumor of it, but no confirmation. I didn't want to go digging through Reddit after a rumor I could have imagined 😬

Here is a link where the dev confirms it is gonna be made: https://www.reddit.com/r/SyncforLemmy/comments/14ee1ul/_/

I imagine we won't see anything substantial for a few months though. I can't wait for it to get a release.

You're a beautiful human, thank you!

Oh gosh 😊

There is an official subreddit for it, led by ljdawson the developer. He doesn't even have an alpha build out yet to my knowledge though. There are a couple Lemmy communities I've seen pop up for it, one of which seemed like it had an ljdawson verified post? But haven't checked in a while. I'm on mobile, or I'd give you some links.

I just hit install from Firefox so basically the browser

I mostly use Jerboa but I tried Connect and it looks a little more polished. I only tried it because Jerboa isn't compatible with Lemmy.world at the moment, but that will be fixed with the release of server version 18.1 in the near future.

I've been using jerboa, it's the only one I've heard of, it's not great but under active development, and better than the web interface for Lemmy instances

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Can you login to lemmy.world though? I can't due to low server version...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's a pretty new issue. It seems latest Jerboa requires lemmy 0.18 (which surprises me since this server version is just two days old... )

But actually I am posting this comment with Jerboa right now. So the app complains but still works anyway.

[email protected] (written with Memmy… not sure if this links automatically)

I'm using wefwef.app which is a web app that works a lot like Apollo. It's a PWA, so you can install it to your home screen and (eventually) even get notifications.

I’ve tried Memmy, Mlem, and Thunder. I’ve been jumping back and forth between Memmy and Thunder today. I like that Memmy and Thunder have messages and swipe integrated. Mlem is still getting messages up and running. I do like that Mlems themes can match the system, aka switch between dark/light mode. But so far Memmy seems the most feature rich and Thunder is the cleanest UI I’ve seen so far. Want to try out Artemis when it launches too.

I just started trying thunder for Android, was trying Jebora before it. Downloading/Installing the APK from GitHub was super easy. I quite like the interface and it's compact view, but you can't sort by top (any of day/week/month/etc) and I haven't figured out if you can use change the default sorting, but it's quite nice for how early along in it's development is. Default is local/Hot, I'd like all/TopDay for now, blocking communities Im not interested in and subscribing to new ones that pique my interest.

I learned about thunder in this thread today, but i have troubles figuring the UI even for basic things. For instance, how do you reply to a specific comment? (I can only see this icon in the lower right corner, but it does not look like it will do anything else than creating a first level comment!)

Got it. Replying is one of those swipe actions. Disturbingly unusual UI, although it could be quite usable in practice! (still missing other options such as editing or deleting posts... )
