The solution is: don't go on Tinder. If it tried to be even remotely good at its ostensible job, it would put itself out of business. It's all "Match Group" or some shit, they own a lot of the "brands" on the dating market.

I'm pretty sure there's a lawsuit against them right now claiming they're doing one or another version of being a shitty business.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 months ago

Can only hope they'll get flayed in court, but I sort of doubt it.

What a predatory system

[–] [email protected] 52 points 6 months ago (1 children)

You swipe right on pretty girls? I swipe left because I already know I'm not going to match.

I'm kidding.

I deleted Tinder after using it for month and getting zero matches.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I gave it up when the little notification numbers started popping up for shit like “Want to upgrade?”

I’m not into emotional abuse. Especially from a fucking app.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

First thing I do after installing most apps/games is turn off notifications.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 months ago

I'm not talking about popups. I'm talking about the red-circled number at the corner of the app's icon indicating a match ... or at least it used to indicate a match. Now it indicates Tinder has decided to trade a little of its credibility for an advertisement.

Been there. "oh gee whiz, I wonder who that could have been"

Tinder is a disaster.

Consider not using tinder if it makes you feel bad.

Adam4adam, growlr, and grindr are working great over here!

[–] [email protected] 14 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I know grindr is mainly for gay men, so i'd wager those other 2 are also for them, so not decent alternatives for hetero people

[–] [email protected] 11 points 6 months ago

Plus, tinder is incentived to not make good matches, since that would lose them customers if they're in a stable relationship now.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 6 months ago

Bruh he is an incel he's always gonna feel bad no cure for that

Can confirm this is true. Or it's a man listed as a woman. Not trans, just a spam account.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Plot twist: Anon is the fattest man you've ever seen in your whole life. He just swiped away the only woman on Tinder who would ever swipe right on him.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago

I'm 6'2" 165lbs with an 80k/year job and this story could've very well been about me

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, he's either the fattest man you've ever seen, or has ADHD and is socially awkward, which are both also apparently just as unnattractive to women

It's okay though I met my gf IRL and she's just as scatter brained and awkward as me.

I hate Tinder and Tinder-like dating sites.

I need more to be interested than looks.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The thing is, that tinder doesn't really show your profile to other people. A friend of mine recently had this. He was getting zero matches, but after someone gifted him tinder platinum he got quite a lot of matches.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

I had plenty of matches with and never paid for any kind of premium subscription.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Tinder used to be good 'til around 2016. After that it's been downhill hard. Last couple times I've tried it, I noticed that it literally avoids showing you profiles that have liked you. In my case, I had "45" likes, yet after 300 swipes to the left, that number didn't go down.

No wonder people just make the profile, leave their instagram handle on a photo or their bio and abandon tinder altogether.

I've had more success with bumble, though it's been 2 months that that piece of shit refuses to recognize my location, which makes everything refuse to work. Permissions are all ok, gps is working, but the app can't get my position. Customer support is an unhelpful bot that points to the FAQ.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I've heard good things from other people about Bumble, and I literally met my last girlfriend (of 3 years, we broke up recently, my heart may never recover) on it.

Cancelling a Bumble subscription is also no easy feat.

Having physical preferences is ok, you can’t be forced to be attracted to someone you aren’t attracted to. This goes both ways of course

[–] [email protected] 11 points 6 months ago

But you have to finde me attractive, even if I'm obese. If you don't you're a misogynyc fatphobic pig l. /s

[–] [email protected] 22 points 6 months ago

More like, he was already swiping right on anyone he was interested in but Tinder thought that it could sell him on a premium upgrade because he missed a match with someone he didn't want to match with and already swiped left specifically to avoid matching with.

It's all about mutual attraction. If the other person isn't interested, there's no point in matching. If you aren't interested, there's still no point in matching.

I wanna invent the term superfiscally.

[–] Honytawk 19 points 6 months ago (2 children)

A lot of the pretty people on there are fake anyway.

That is why I usually go for the average people. No business tries to advertise with average people anyway.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 6 months ago

No business tries to advertise with average people anyway.

Thanks for the business idea.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

And here I thought inclusivity is high on the agenda of next to all brands! Who knew...

[–] [email protected] 10 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Do people really still use Tinder? I haven't been single for a long time but I just assumed it had died a slow sad death.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I've been with my now wife for 7 years and we met on tinder. Idk how much it's changed since then, but it definitely worked for us.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

I met my wife on Tinder about that long ago. Maybe a little longer. We're getting a very amicable divorce since we both grew apart, but yea, it worked.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 6 months ago (1 children)

middle aged friend i got pays for tinder and gets daily report on potentials to fuck. i felt sad for him. met some of the girls. feel sad for them now. so i think oldish and ugly ppl use tinder.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

This seems to be extremely region and country dependent! 😅 Where I live (Germany, large city), tinder is very popular and not among "old, ugly" people for sure.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 6 months ago

how beautiful can tinderusers be on the inside?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago

Dodged a tank shell

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago

Sounds about right.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 months ago

People who judge others for being picky about appearances, you wouldn't even know if you weren't also using the same judgement.
