The 1830s? The height of the industrial revolution and the beginning of Victorian puritanicalism, a decade so cursed it turned a nice little middle class German boy into the world's first communist?

.....Wat? jesse-wtf

Taylor Swift is a lifelong famous person and absurdly cloistered billionaire. She has no idea what life in 2020 was like, never mind 1830.

And I'm guessing 'without the racists' means if only thr Southern aristocracy weren't in the Klan, I could drink mint juleps, wear frills, and host balls. Because something tells me it's not a reference to, say, the Indian Remove act and Trail of Tears so that more rich white people could build estates to swan around on land they then said was theirs.

The 1830s without ALL the racists is basically an empty room

Just hanging out with some slaves and indigenous people wondering why the master's house is empty idk

i hate to have to do this but the lyric is fine in context

" My friends used to play a game where

We would pick a decade

We wished we could live in instead of this

I'd say the 1830s but without all the racists

And getting married off for the highest bid

Everyone would look down 'cause it wasn't fun now "

Idk what anyone would be expecting with that game

Why in the hell would anyone want to go back to the 1830s. I’m a historian and there’s no way you could get me to go back there (unless I can bring a shit ton of hand sanitizer, penicillin, a polio shot, and a phone charger)

Ludicrous! I would greatly enjoy stubbing my toe then dying of sepsis

Look she’s just really into Louis Philippe and wants to experience the bourgeois democratic revolutions
