Community community

This is the community to talk about communities and learn how we can make communities better - create the ones we would like to see in the world, and improve the ones we happen to be in.

This group operates under the understanding that by being raised mostly in authoritarian structures of some kind or another we have unlearned a lot about healthy equal-to-equal relationships and healthy self-ruling communities, but it's still out there somewhere. Let's get this power back and collect knowledge here! Examples of what could go here:

Be kind to each other, we are all learning.

I'm wondering about making a voidpunk community here on slrpnk.net. I've got a bit on my plate to handle moderating it right now but it's a serious consideration for me later in the year. Is it a good idea? Do any of you here identify as such as well? I consider myself part of both communities.

Hey I never heard about voidpunk, can you maybe explain a little bit what that means to you?

Besides that I think you can start a community here any time as long as it fits within the server rules. I hope you try that out. :D

In the fediverse it sometimes heavily matters because small communities dont get discovered by user of other instances/servers easily.

For your specific question I would encourage you to also (cross)post it to !meta to reach most of the users on this instance/server. I think just leaving it here, your question might not get seen by many.

There are also big communities like [email protected] which might help you find others interested in voidpunk.

Very informative reply, thank you! I'm a total noob to the fediverse, tbh. My understanding so far is that voidpunk is the rejection of all standard (or majority) culture. I believe it technically encompasses all alternative ideologies and identities but seems most specific to those facing dehumanization and/or derealization. It's a spooky and often quite sad side of punk. It's taken over a majority of my artwork the last few years so I've been feeling... drawn to the community.

(also looks like a (fairly inactive) community at [email protected])

I've definitely got to look around more, haha. It does seem rather quiet though. I think the solarpunk community could be a real help to the voidpunk community. It's such an environmentally aware, ethically material, and caring form of punk, and that seems to me to be what us voids have struggled most to find in the world around us.
