Jerboa is a native-android client for Lemmy, built using the native android framework, Jetpack Compose.

Warning: You can submit issues, but between Lemmy and lemmy-ui, I probably won't have too much time to work on them. Learn jetpack compose like I did if you want to help make this app better.

With most links it goes to the browser version which plays within Jerboa, but with YouTube video links it always takes me away to the YouTube app. Can it not do that please? Thanks

I set the link association to open Newpipe instead, it works great. It's not within Jerboa but still a step up

Is that from within Lemmy settings or general Android settings?

Uninstall YouTube, and you'll get your browser thingie. 😅.

You should be able to do to YouTube's Android settings and revoke the rights to auto-open.

Fucking duh. It was a very simple settings change. Turn off "Open supported links" in "Set as default" in YouTube app settings

The WebView (the browser thingie) is usually vulnerable to a lot of attacks though

I'm sorry but I rather like that feature. You could use NewPipe as standard youtube app. Makes the experience so much less annoying.

It's not difficult to support both preferences. Open Links In External App and Open Links In App, loads of apps already do this.

Install from the f-droid store, the URLCheck app and the NewPipe app. Configure all the links to open by URLCheck by default. In the NewPipe app configure the open link to ask everytime. Now, when you open a youtube link it would open the urlcheck first, asking you what to do with the link, you can choose newpipe, the explorer or the youtube app from there. If you choose newpipe it should open another pop-up asking you what to do with the link, play in background, play as a small screen or open the app.
