Robert Liston performed the only operation with a 300% mortality rate; His patient, his assistant and a spectator died. I'm questioning if it was attempted though, it kinda seems like you'd have to try to kill all three...

In that chaos, Liston started to move so fast that he accidently cut his assistant’s fingers off and also slashed a spectator’s coat.

The spectator thought that he was hurt and died of terror on the spot.

Was this a thing back in the day? You get a little terrified and just drop dead?

I believe it is unconfirmed if it actually happened. Liston was not exactly popular among the other surgeons, so it's likely they made up the story to hurt his reputation. He was really good at what he did.
