That is a tricky problem to solve. Normally, gass stays underground, because there’s plenty of rock above it to provide enough pressure. You would need to clog up all the tiny crevices with something really fine, like clay, and then build a mountain on top of it. If there’s a mine nearby, they could just dump all the waste rock/sand/dust in the pit.
