I would pick the boredom because at the very worst I can just kill myself, whereas as a hat there's nothing I can do until I decay or am thrown away and a hat could literally spend a hundred years tucked away in a closet somewhere which would be far more boring than just living a boring life.

Boredom. At least I'll die one day. A hat may be stuck in some cupboard until it slowly decays over thousands of years.
If you live in the boring place, can't you at least have hobbies? I have more fun at home than I have going out, anyway.
Exactly. Just create something. A world where everything is boring is paradox, because we have creativity and can produce our own, interesting ideas.
I am a hat person. I've worn hats since I was a toddler, and even my kids think look weird without one on. It's like my Linus blanket. Ain't bald, it could be perfectly fine weather for a fancy hairdo, still got a hat.
So with all that being said, gonna go with the popes hat. Any hat, I'm gonna be that hat. It will be shortly after that we will learn if my mind control tricks work or not. If they do, churches are paying taxes and women will be put in charge of the Vatican.
If they do not, I fucked up and am just a really stupid looking hat.
Plot twist: mind control does work and most of the Catholic Church woes are due to a super-intelligent but backward-thinking and sometimes pedophiliac race of hats
And as the biggest it it means my jib it's to.... is to..... oh fuck.
That definition of boring reminds me of what I felt when I was experiencing depression last few years. Responses here seem to back it up, as most say that only escape from such place is death, because of inability to do even basic actions around myself. No motivation to create our change, just vegetative state until final void.
Being a hat, without any possibility of creating or interact seem like hell itself in its own right, as in this situation person cannot express themselves. It's tragic and reminds me of vegetative state people. Turning into inanimate object to live forever like that is not a life either. But not having any form of escape makes it worse imho.
Ultimately only difference between those choices is if you choose to make suffering finite or not for yourself. I chose boring life, because it can change. For anyone who has experienced it, let it be known, it can change :)
Being a hat, without any possibility of creating or interact seem like hell itself in its own right,
It could also easily be as boring as the boring choice.
Turning into inanimate object to live forever
I'd be surprised if the average hat really lives all that long.
I'm with you in choosing the boring life. Also, if worse comes to worse you can just off yourself. Not an option as a hat.
With how much war, malnutrition and unfairness and wealth inequality in the world, I wonder how many people would see at least the boring choice as a massive upgrade over the status quo? I'd guess it's probably a lot.
Hat.
Boredom on that level would be torture. Ruin all relationships and all hobbies.
As a hat i get to see the world, provided my wearer travels and I'm not just stuck in a shelf for years.
Also afaik a hat is immortal. Silently observing the world until eventually scrapped and burned in a recycling yard.
I was going to say that boredom is the obvious answer, but you make hat sound pretty good. I do love to travel. I would probably end up being the hat on the guy who chooses boredom.
Even sitting on a second hand shop shelf would be preferrable to me than the boredom answer
I tried to keep some things vague so people could have fun with rules like hat immortality. I wonder if boredom is too strict. I guess we'll see.
Yeah the way boredom is defined here it would basically mean no happiness ever again. At least the way I read it
I chose boredom a long time ago, you won't tempt me with the hat life now
I would probably be living in a perpectual state of boredom , since as a hat I will not have any choices!
#1 definitely. I live in a place that most would consider boring. Boring is nice, you can make your own amusement or travel for fun.
Iโd rather be a hat. It sounds already like what being a baby is like.
