Lemmy 0.19.4 (aussie.zone)
submitted 1 month ago by [email protected] to c/[email protected]

Hey all, following the work over the weekend we're now running Lemmy 0.19.4. please post any comments, questions, feedback or issues in this thread.

One of the major features added has been the ability to proxy third party images, which I've enabled. I'll be keeping a closer eye on our server utilisation to see how this goes...

If I go to Profile > Uploads I can see images I have uploaded with the option to delete. At this time is it possible to show if the upload is linked to a post or comment?

As a test (in case such a feature is part of the delete process) I deleted an image in a comment and I wasn't asked to confirm (no biggy, I was prepared to lose it) and I wasn't notified if the image was linked to a comment or post.

Not that I've seen. Its a very new feature so expect the devs will iterate on it further.

I have some uploaded image problems.

(1) The Lost Powers of Childhood is missing an inline image upload on the first comment ("Bonus: in this..."). According to the message source the image should be at https://aussie.zone/pictrs/image/ecc05d82-7a5e-48a4-a304-446aba2078db.jpeg. I think this might have occurred before the upgrade, I recall having to look for it a week ago, but I'm not sure.

(2) The new Profile -> Uploads page has lots of odd gaps:

It's not showing some images I've uploaded, eg this MSY catalog screenshot isn't listed there.

EDIT: (3) Front page isn't showing thumbnails for posts made after the transition date either:

1 and 2, I have the same.. looks like a bug, or possibly uploads that were never submitted?

3 seems hit and miss, will look into it further tonight.

Had a quick look at 3... browsing /new I see many thumbnails working, some not. Checking pict-rs I see some errors indicating it wasn't able to download from the home site... not sure if it correlates, and if they're genuine issues at the origin or if its a bug on this side. I'll see if any other admins have seen similar issues.

Ok, pict-rs had an update yesterday that looks related:
When the same proxy endpoint was accessed more than once concurrently, only one request would end up succeeding. Now pict-rs better handles when multiple concurrent requests are made.

I've updated pict-rs just now, we'll see how it goes.

Just to resurrect this thread from a week ago, posts I just made in /c/Adelaide are not showing thumbnails.

I can't see vote counts of other instances since the update, every comment is just 0, and also I'm finding images are super slow to load or just don't load at all.

Using Boost.

Thanks for all your hard work providing such a great Reddit alternative. I'm still confused about how it works and the terminology.

Votes missing from lemmy.world is expected, due to backend federation issues over long distances between servers.

I've seen some image issues on Boost too, but not in Sync. So I believe this is a Boost issue. But the image proxying feature is new and may have some bugs also.

Must be a very long distance; I'm getting notifications 6 days late. 🤣

Is there anything that can be done about the missing vote counts?

I know I don’t belong to this instance but trying to find other users having this problem to find common cause. Since this update I can no longer load and pages beyond the first on the home page. The next button just reloads the same page.

There is a new functionality for users to list all images they have previously uploaded, and delete them if desired. It also allows admins to view and delete images hosted on the local instance.

That one sounds neat. Gives me a chance to delete all those photos of my old fella I accidentally uploaded when I was trying to post a photo of like, a lake... or whatever.
