Plenty of men wear makeup. Embrace your inner goth.

Personal note: this is one of the many gendered things I simply refuse to acknowledge as gendered. There are plenty of instance where it's perfectly normal (thus mentioning goth) and it shouldn't be gender specific to want a more uniform completion.

Cis straight white male here (Though I am Aro...) I color my beard, and I wear some eye shadow occasionally, have done various things with makeup, its a fun time!

edit: By "color my beard" I mean big, vibrant colors, not like "I'm greying and color it to avoid looking like it". My favorite combo is Green on one half, and Blue on the other half.

I kinda wanna color my beard a crazy color now. Though I'll need a beard first...

If you decide to color I highly recommend Mofajang hair wax, rinses out immediately, stays for as long as you don't rinse it out.

I've bought most of their colors, so I can mix and match and do crazy things with it. My wildest was a sunset from top to bottom, black and stars on top, dark purple, then lighter and lighter to sky blue on the bottom.

I wear emo makeup and I can't tell if I love it because it's emo or because it makes me feel girly when I put on eyeliner...

I absolutely agree that it shouldn't be considered gendered, makeup is awesome.

All the “male role models” in Hollywood use makeup.

Pretty much anyone on stage or on TV is wearing some kind of makeup. It is incredibly common.

Thanks!

I should make it clear I didn't mean to imply that men can't wear makeup, just that this... err, character is interested in the girly kind.

I assumed as much but I still find it a bit silly that it's explicitly a gendered act when it's used by professionals in many fields. If you want to be flagrantly neon pink lipped, I really don't think of all things gender should be the measure of if it's alright.

my wife had a huge purse collection that i'm allowed to mine! Old makeup, too!

[-] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

Oh makeup. I was a wreck early in my transition. My wife helped me pick out some makeup and taught me some basics. She then tolerated my inevitable crying and delays each morning when I would make a mistake and feel like I had to start over. Between trying to learn everything and going through Puberty 2 : Estrogenic Boogaloo, it was kind of rough.

Pretty great on the other side though. Few things have felt as good as my wife asking me for makeup tips!

Hehe. I'm so glad to hear your wife supported your transition.

i was watching a video the other day, i think it was Tirrrb, and i heard something that’s been rolling around my brain. for an amab trying to surpress trans identity issues, the act of getting married and having children can be purely perfomative masculinity. all throughout childhood boys are taught that having a family is super important, it makes sense to assume that’s the magical thing that will suddenly make you feel alright in your body.

transitions after having kids arguably make more sense from an outsider perspective. you literally did all the things you’re supposed to do as a man, according to media. at that point if you’re even considering it, i reckon it’s time to start taking some small steps and seeing how you feel!

even miniscule, “undetectable to anyone but you” kinda steps if you want, at the end of the day this is about you being happy :)
