/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Hating someone off of their race, culture, creed, sexuality, or identity is not remotely acceptable. Mistakes can happen but do your best to respect others.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon' and fuck over our artist friends.

Fun will now commence.

Michael Sussman was instrumental in establishing which species founded the Federation. "My phone rings and Brannon [Braga] says, 'Mike, real quick - who are the founding species of the Federation?' What flipped through my mind," recalled Sussman, "was that it had never been established, but there had been a lot of fan speculation going back to 'Journey to Babel' that many of those races - the Tellarites, the Andorians and the little gold guys - were among the founding members. For that quarter of a second I'm thinking, 'What do I tell him? If I say it's never been decided he might make up a couple of new races and that might set certain people off'. So I basically lied to him and said 'Oh yeah, it's Andorians and Tellarites.' He put it in the script and now it's canon!" (Star Trek: The Official Starships Collection, issue 37, p. 15)

And then you basically see neither of them again after TOS and some films until Enterprise. They definitely aren't in TNG or Voyager and if they're in DS9, it's in the background where I never noticed.

Lower Decks does them some justice. I just thought the history of choosing who the founding members were was interesting.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 month ago

Definitely. It just always bothered me that they just ignored both of them for years.

Yeah, but Enterprise did them so well that it almost makes up for it. And then we got Jankom and the Tellarites on Disco.

I know, but as someone who grew up watching TOS, I spent so long waiting to see a Tellarite or an Andorian again.

There are only two Andorians shown in TNG: one was a holographic depiction as a possible appearance for Lal, and the other was in the background on Risa.

I forgot about the hologram for Lal, but I don't remember the one in the Risa background.

Ha. "What do you mean that costume was just for one episode?! You think Paramount is made of money or something?"

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

The Risa one was just 3 episodes later, too!

Hey, it's possibly Bashir's relative!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I like to imagine Bashir looked it up when he got back to his time and found out she was a different Watley, so he would have been safe to fuck her. Damn, missed opportunity!

Who are the little gold guys.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Not founding members, but still early entrants. The Aaamazzarites.

Per co-creator Robert Fletcher:

AAAMAZZARITES – Therbians from planet Aaamazzara. They generate their own clothing from out of own mouths, like bees making hives. They manufacture everything they use from their own chemistry, from inside their own body, from clothing to furniture.

Very handy.

So if you need to build a house you spend half the time in all you can eat buffets. Neat AND healthy.

At first glance, I thought Terrians from Earth 2 kind of vaguely looks like those guys.

What a based man. Just re-watched the Romulan drone ship episodes yesterday, so fun having those two species on screen.
