I want to be logged in so I can do most things on Reddit like post and comment. I want it to be a web frontend rather than an app because I keep many tabs on Reddit open in my browser while doing research on things (like digital privacy for instance!). I did some searching and didn't find any currently working frontends with login support.

Reddit killed them a year ago. That's why people switched to Lemmy btw.

You mean something using their API? Then I have some bad "news" for you ๐Ÿ˜…

VPNs are blocked.

Very unlikely to exist. Libreddit (that didn't support user login to start with) was discontinued a while ago, and Reddit's hostile stance on 3rd party clients in general means any project gaining prominence will get killed before they become popular. RedReader (an Android app) is only permitted to use its API for free because of public outcry due to accessibility issues involving blind users. A web frontend with user login support for Reddit will get hunted down by Reddit's legal department if it ever reaches maturity.

RedLib has forked Libreddit and has been going strong for the past few months. Its been working beautifully for me.

Bless their souls. I cringe whenever I have to open a Reddit page from browser. And I know that old.reddit.com won't last forever.

I use libredirector to redirect to RedLib and it's been a dream not having to interact with that anti-consumer platform

is it also good withouth an account? i dont want to comment there but subscribe to subs. using stealth now but the ui is a bit meh.

Correct, you can't log into it with a Reddit account.

Unfortunately, that doesn't exist without the API. You could use the normal frontend and container tabs for ff. They are an extension, but it's made by Mozilla and integrates quite well. You can even automate it so Reddit always opens in a specific container.

I believe you can provide your own API code with Infinity if you compile it from source. Other than that your only way to view Reddit other than Reddit is RedLib, which doesn't offer the ability to log into your RedLib account. Similar to NewPipe where you can subscribe and follow but not interact.

I know you want a webapp, but Red Reader still works last time I checked. It's an open source android app. It still has API access since they don't make money. Perhaps something to use away from your computer.

doesn't old reddit work well enough? they removed the login prompt but it can be restored pretty easily with a userscript (just inject the login prompt copied from the wayback machine)

Unfortunately, since the API change, Reddit blocks VPNs even on old Reddit.

EDIT: If you must visit reddit via VPN, consider using sh.reddit.com. It only supports the new layout though.
